BS 8558 Chlorination - Dantek Engineer In Front Of Van

Getting your mains water pipes ready for use

Before connecting your water supply pipes to the mains, they will need to be flushed through and disinfected to ensure they’re safe and clean. It’s also essential to comply with the British Standard 8558 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

BS 8558 Chlorination

At Dantek, we’re highly experienced in water treatment services and are here to give you all the help and advice you need to stay compliant. But even more than that, we’re here to provide reassurance that you’re doing all you can to safeguard and protect the people who are using your water systems.

If you’re installing water supply pipes for a new build, underground mains or a temporary water supply, disinfection will be required. According to guidance set out in the BS 8558 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, it needs to be done if:

  • You’re installing new supply pipes – unless it’s a private dwelling occupied by a single family.
  • You’re carrying out a major extension or alteration – unless it’s a private dwelling occupied by a single family.
  • You’re working on underground pipework (except localised repairs or insertion of junctions).
  • Your system has not been regularly flushed or in use. Or where contamination may have occurred through sewage, animals, or people entering to carry out an inspection, painting, or repairs.
